Greenland is one of the most isolated habitations in the world, extending over a land the size of Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy put together.
Coming to Ammassalik you enter the very heart of East Greenland’s exceptional beauty, and one of the most beautiful and unspoiled arctic areas in the world.
The awesome landscape has no parallel in the entire arctic. A mosaic of steep, dramatic mountains, countless lakes, streams and rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and green valleys. Ammassalik radiates a purity, which has overwhelmed and fascinated visitors throughout time.
It is a land of unforgettable beauty filled with mountains, icebergs, mystery and adventure. When the sun is out the icebergs sparkle and shimmer, and the shapes infused with the turquoise of pure ice will take your breath away.
See for yourself how the Inuit live and survive in this environment. This is not an image put on for the tourists, this is how it is. This is the best geography field trip you will ever have!
Greenland has an arctic climate, which means that the average temperature is +10 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Nevertheless you might experience days with temperatures of +15 to 20 degrees Celsius.
It is important to bring warm as well as light clothes and best of all is to bring more “layers of clothing”, so that you are easily able to adjust by adding or taking off “one layer”!
Specially when sailing the Greenland fiords, where everybody normally wants to stay outside and enjoy the scenery, it is recommended to wear a wind and waterproof jacket, a warm sweater, cap and gloves.
