Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul - all three are names for a city with a great past and interesting present. The only city to have served as the capital of three empires, the only one astride two continents, the meeting place of East and West , Asia and Europe, Christianity and Islam.
Continuously inhabited for 27 centuries, Istanbul is one of the oldest major cities - along with Athens, Jerusalem, Beijing, Rome and Damascus. Not many cities have played as significant a role in history as Istanbul.
Cappadocia is unique in the world and is a miraculous display of nature and humans working together. The area is famous for the Chimney rocks created from volcanic rocks resulting from natural erosion. Within this landscape humans constructed underground cities to protect and hide themselves from persecution. This is a fascinating cultural insight as well as a beautiful landscape to enjoy.
