Saracen Joust in Arezzo

HIGHLIGHTS: Saracen Joust in stunning medieval town of Arezzo combined with open-air Quartiere Dinner, Largest outdoor Antique Fair in Italy and private visit of the Uffizzi in Florence

The Saracen Joust of Arezzo is an ancient game of chivalry, dating back to the Middle Ages when it was an exercise for military training. It has gained a strongly competitive spirit between the 4 quartieri and the rules remain unchanged since 1677. We offer Balcony viewing where you can watch in comfort. Combine this with the Oldest Antique Fair in Italy in the heart of Arezzo and you certainly have a trip into the culture and history of Italy.

Break is from 3rd to 5th Sept (or 17th-19th June without the Antiques Fair)

Day 2
Visit Italys oldest and largest Antique Fair. Watch Jousting from Balcony

Today there is an amazing open-air fair with over 500 exhibitors from all over Italy. Founded in 1968 this has grown in status and size and set in the heart of the medieval city of Arezzo is fascinating way to gain an insight into Italian culture and spend the morning.

By 5pm you will be on your balcony watching the colourful historical parade of 350 people which culminates in the blessing of the Men at Arms. This is followed by the Knights Tournament where they will gallop with their Lance against the Saracen.

Jousting dates back to the Middle ages and whilst this festival was originally set up in 1931 as a historical re-enactment this now has a strongly competitive spirit between the four Quartieri (town parts) who challenge each other in a mix of ability, power and precision.
