This journey takes you from the frozen sea in the gulf of Bothnia to the Fjords in Norway on one epic journey. Along the way we have handpicked the best Arctic experiences and unique places to stay which combine to make this trip simply unforgettable!
DAY 1
Fly to Lulea in Swedish Lapland. Overnight
Fly from your choice of airport (see below) via Stockholm to Lulea. With so many flight connections Lulea is accessible from many UK airports.
On arrival in Lulea you will be greeted in the arrivals hall and given a short guided tour through Luleå to the Elite Hotel where you will be assisted with your luggage and check in at the Hotel.
Evening at Leisure. The hotel and surrounding area has excellent restaurants and bars.
DAY 2
Drive the IceRoad & Snowmobile to the Ice Wall. Overnight Treehotel
Enjoy breakfast before collection from the hotel for a day of pure exhilaration. Firstly drive on the frozen seas on the famous ice roads leading to Hindersön and Storbrändön in the Luleå archipelago.
At the end of the journey transfer to Brändön for probably the best snowmobile trip in Lapland. The pack Ice 4 hour snowmobile safari takes you straight to the endless pack-ice fields by the island of Brändöskär in the archipelago. At Brändöskär, in view of 20 foot ice packs created by the wind on the frozen sea, cook lunch over an open fire prior to visiting the old island fishing village with authentic cabins and a small chapel.
Upon your return you will be driven on a guided tour to the Treehotel, the world's most original new hotel. The 6 themed tree rooms are set in pristine forest surrounded by stillness and wilderness.
Britta and Kent, who brought the Treehotel to life, are your hosts. Charming, caring and warm hosts they add the personal touch to this futuristic hotel.
Enjoy dinner before retiring to your home in the trees!
Day 3
Husky Sled Dog Adventure and Gourmet Evening
After breakfast transfer to Sorbyn, a small village about 40 minutes from the Treehotel. Your musher, Richard and his purebred Siberian Huskies await to take you on a private tour into the wilderness of Swedish Lapland. Travel through the last pristine river valley in Sweden and have the chance to see reindeers running free on the trails alongside other wild animals.
The trails are the same ones the Sami people transported the iron ore with their old reindeer akjas (sleds) from mountain to coast. You will have the opportunity to mush the dogs for part of the tour, however, some of the time you will be driven by the guide.
Upon return check into Sörbyn guest house. This evening enjoy a gastronomic journey through the palates of Swedish lapland as you enjoy a dinner by the warmth of the fireplace from a chef who has worked in some of the best restaurants in Sweden.
DAY 4
Train to Kiruna & IceHotel Experience
After breakfast a guide will drive you to Boden to catch the train to Kiruna for the next leg of your adventure. The train journey is circa 3 hours and takes you across the Arctic Circle.
On arrival in Kiruna a guide will meet and transfer you to the Ice Hotel. Afternoon and evening at lesiure to explore the Hotel and its surroundings and perhaps enjoy dinner and a few drinks in the Absolut Ice Bar.
Overnight in your choice of an Ice Art Suite or a cabin.
DAY 5
Introduction to The Life of the Sami. Abisko Northern Lights.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the IceHotel prior to pick up by Håkan your Sami guide.
Håkan will take you to Rávttas, a small Sami village 20 km west of Kiruna, close to the mountain range. He will introduce you to his reindeer herd that are kept in a corral during the winter months. Learn about the traditional Sami lifestyle as practiced today and yesteryear. The day includes a reindeer ride in the forest
Enjoy lunch with smoked meats (suovas) and bread (gahkku) aound the open fire in a Sami tepee (lavvu) while Håkan imparts the history and culture of the Sami people.
This evening transfer to Abisko Sky Station, widely regarded as the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights.
Check in and enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner at Abisko Mountain Lodge prior to taking the chairlift up Mount Nuolja to the observatory.
During the winter nights when it is dark, depending on the correct weather conditions, it is possible to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky around you from this fantastic vantage point. Click arrow on photo opposite to see video of Northern Lights above Abisko
At around midnight return to Abisko Mountain Lodge and overnight.
DAY 6
Train Trip to Norwegian Fjords. Northern Lights Snow Shoe Walk
Enjoy breakfast in the Lodge prior to catching the train to the Norwegian Fjords at Narvik. The route of 168 Km, entirely north of the Arctic, goes along a fantastic landscape of mountains and finally along the Ofotfjord. The line crosses the Abisko National Park and crosses the border into Norway at Riksagransen, which is also the point where the railway reaches its highest altitude.
Spend a few hours in the historically important town of Narvik prior to returning to Abisko. This evening enjoy a 3 course dinner in the lodge before going out with your guide on a snowshoe walk in search of the Northern Lights.
Overnight at Abisko Mountain lodge.
Day 7
Airport Transfer for Flight Home
After Breakfast transfer back along the majestic shoreline of Lake Tometrask. Drop off at airport in Kiruna in time for your flight home.
