Northern Lights 4WD Adventure in Iceland

HIGHLIGHTS: Driving your own 4WD vehicle the exhilaration of exploring Iceland's majestic scenery and seeing the northern lights is ever popular amongst clients celebrating a wedding anniversary or birthday.

This is the ultimate Iceland adventure holiday and luxury weekend short break to see the Northern Lights Iceland.

On challenging trails you will drive modified 4x4 vehicles to discover glaciers, deserts, lava fields, waterfalls and the Golden Circle whilst staying at Hotel Ranga famed as The Northern Lights Hotel Iceland. A trained guide will be in the vehicle the whole time to help teach you how to drive through this rugged and challenging terrain, or to drive you- whichever you would prefer.

DAY 1
Fly to Iceland. Transfer to hotel to start your Northern Lights Iceland Break.

Fly to Reykjavik and take a flybus transfer to your Reykjavik hotel to start your Icelandic short break.

Rest of the day is free. Reykjavik is a gourmand’s paradise with some of the best seafood restaurants you will find anywhere in the world.

We would recommend the Perlan Restaurant where your taste buds delight to superb cuisine all set under a huge rotating glass dome. Enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Reykjavik and the surroundings as the restaurant gently completes a full rotation every two hours. Overnight in Reykjavik.

DAY 2
Private 4 wd adventure exploring geysers, waterfalls, and the Viking Settlement at Stöng

Start your Iceland and Northern Lights tour by driving around the Golden Circle visiting the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall, the Geyser area where every 5 minutes an eruption takes place and the becalming beauty of Pingvellir, with its spectacular mini rift valley and home to the world’s first democratic parliament , established by the Vikings in 930.

After lunch at Hotel Geysir rive to the Þjórsárdalur Valley along insider tracks which will start to really test your new found off road driving skills.

Explore the 11th Century excavated Viking settlement Stöng, the Gjain waterfall, and Háifoss, Iceland's second highest waterfall. Continue south to Hotel Ranga, Iceland's premier location for northern lights viewing and your base for the next two nights.

Why not relax with a drink in one of the outdoor hot tubs and search the skies for the Northern Lights. Although there is never any guarantee of seeing this wonderful natural phenomena, the hotel is in one of the best places in Iceland to see the Aurora Borelis from.

As the hotel lies in a secluded countryside location when you do see them it is without interference or light pollution. Overnight at Hotel Ranga.

DAY 3
Drive off road through glacial rivers to Thorsmork.

Continue your Iceland break by driving over rugged gravel roads and fording various glacial rivers deep into the glacier valley. Stop on route to visit the picturesque Seljalandsfoss waterfall and the spectacular Stakkholtsgja gorge .

On arrival at Thorsmork take a short hike to enjoy your packed lunch in breathtaking surroundings. After lunch journey to the coast to witness the black volcanic basaltic shoreline by the Atlantic ocean.

Thereafter you have a choice of A La Carte optional extras (see below) before heading back to the hotel, and a second chance to spot the magnificent Northern Lights at Hotel Ranga, famed as the Northern Lights Hotel in Iceland. Overnight at Hotel Ranga.

DAY 4
Drive to airport via Blue Lagoon after your Off Road Northern Lights Adventure in Iceland.

Finish your holiday in Iceland by driving to Iceland’s most famous attraction the Blue Lagoon.

Enjoy bathing and relaxing in the geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. In addition to bathing there is a sauna with a view of the lagoon, a steam bath with white walls that resemble silica mud and a cosy steam bath carved into a lava cave. Finally drive onto the airport for your flight home after your Weekend break in Iceland.

Drive to the glacier tongue Solheimajokull to explore the glacier. You will take a 2 hr walk on the magnificent glacier and observe the spectacular surroundings. We will provide you with all the tools you need: ice axes, crampons and safety lines.
