Northern Lights Special Holiday Travel Plan
HIGHLIGHTS: Combine Northern Lights viewing at world renowned Abisko Skystation with wilderness sled dog and snowmobile adventures, a visit to the world famous Ice Hotel and an authentic Sami experience and you have a once in a lifetime experience!
This, our most popular Northern Lights break, has several opportunities for seeing the Northern Lights including an evening at the Abisko Sky Station, widely regarded as one of the best viewing places in the world. We also include a great selection of the best Arctic experiences and include all meals.
The 2012/13 Season is forecast to be excellent for aurora watching as the solar activity that drives the Northern Lights reaches a peak. The winter 2011/12 season was outstanding with about 90% of clients seeing some activity on a 3 night break. The intensity of some of the sightings was simply extraordinary and next year is forecast to be the same.

Northern Lights Special
DAY 1
Fly to Swedish Lapland. Northern Lights Sami Evening
Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the 4* Arctic Eden and kitted out with complimentary Arctic Clothing for your Northern Lights Trip.
This evening Hakan, your Sami guide, will take you onto his land for an encounter with his reindeer. After feeding them you will learn about Sami life, before taking an outing into the wilderness on a Snowmobile Sled.
Journey through the dark forest and glide over the frozen river in pursuit of the aurora borealis. At the end gather around the fire in the Sami Tepee (lavvu) to enjoy hot drinks and snack dinner. Hakan will share his many stories with regard to Sami mythology and history.
Late evening drop back at the Arctic Eden Hotel.
Meals included: Dinner

DAY 2
Wilderness Husky Sled Safari. Northern Lights Hunting in Abisko
After breakfast continue your Northern Lights Holiday with your guide who will pick you up for a 4 hour experience in the wilderness driving a husky sled dog team. With one Husky team between 2 people you can take turns driving!
Glide over frozen lakes and through woods enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes around you. Stop for a wilderness lunch before a return journey back to Kiruna.
Early evening transfer by bus to Abisko, the Northern Lights Capital of Europe. Enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner at Abisko Mountain Lodge (or at the Aurora Sky Station for a small supplement) prior to taking the chairlift up Mount Nuolja to the Aurora Sky Station, which offers visitors a panoramic view over Lapporten, the Abisko Alps and Tornetrask.
During the winter nights this is, dependent on weather conditions, one of the best places on earth for consistent sightings of the Northern Lights.
To understand just why Abisko is the best place for seeing the Northern Lights you may find the content on the link to the Abisko Sky Station of interest.
Alternatively, for all those keen photographers, spend the evening trying to get the perfect Northern Lights shot. After dinner at Abisko Mountain Lodge you will be met and taken to the best vantage points. Each person is given a Nikon DSLR camera, preset for optimum aurora photography cameras,and after an evening of learning all about the northern lights and hopefully shooting them you will have the memory card given to you to take home as a lasting memory!

Day Wilderness Snowmobile Safari. Visit World Famous Ice Hotel.
After breakfast Mikko your snowmobile guide will meet and transfer you to a spectacular valley near Kiruna for your snowmobile adventure. You will enjoy a day of exploration in the arctic wilderness. The terrain includes frozen rivers and lake systems of the region with great views before you.
You will cover about 40 kilometres in your day, which will also include lunch back at Máttaráhkká Sami Lodge. The valley is home to some wildlife so you could bump into the occasional reindeer!
Mikko will then drop you down at the world famous Ice Hotel where you can spend a couple of hours touring the hotel, marvelling at the Art Suites, having a drink in the Absolut Ice Bar or doing some shopping.
At around 6pm transfer back to the Arctic Eden hotel where you have an evening at leisure and dinner included at the Arctic Thai restaurant adjacent to the hotel.
If you want to do something a bit special tonight then we can suggest the dinner and Northern Lights hot tub evening at Mattarahkka Sami Lodge. Alternatively you could enjoy an evening at Hotel Arctic Eden and indulge your taste buds with the "Best of Local Foods" menu.

Northern Lights Photography Evening
Join “Lights Over Lapland” photographer Chad Blakley for an opportunity to see and photograph the aurora borealis in the wilderness of Abisko National Park. Due to clear skies and virtually no light pollution, Abisko is one of the greatest places in the world to see the Northern Lights. Chad will provide you with a high quality camera & lens and teach you the skills that you will need to find and photograph the magical aurora borealis. Even if you have never used a camera before you have an extremely high chance of going home with some beautiful aurora photographs and memories that will last a lifetime! Small groups ensure a very personal and genuine experience.

Dinner, Hot Tub and Northern Lights
A wonderfully relaxing evening hopefully seeing the Northern Lights at Mattarahkka Sami Lodge. Enjoy an excellent 3-course Lappish dinner prior to spending time in the roof-top hot tub from where you can relax and enjoy the star filled night sky and with a little luck even see the Northern Lights dancing above you. Although the temperature outside is below zero, you will be really warm in the hot tub. If the 35-40 degree celcius water isn´t enough enjoy a warm sauna in the special relaxation zone.

One of the beauties of the location is that you can snowmobile out from your front door into the arctic wilderness and the sled dog kennel is less than a kilometre away. Evenings are focused on good food, relaxation and the Northern Lights.

Overnight Wilderness Cabin
If you are travelling as a small group of friends or family (4-8 people) and want to do something unique together then this is a must!. Journey out on either Sled dogs (2 persons per team) or snowobiles (one per person) for an afternoon of exploration before arriving at your Cabin. You will have use of a sauna whilst your guide cooks a Lappish dinner. Wine will be served with dinner. Spend the evening in the wilderness, maybe looking out for the northern lights.
The following morning enjoy breakfast prior to returning to base.
