Northern Lights Special Holiday

Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the 4* Arctic Eden and kitted out with our excellent quality Arctic Clothing for your use on all your activities. One of the guides will run through your itinerary with you.

This evening Hakan, your Sami guide, will take you onto his land for an encounter with his reindeer. Learn about Sami life, before taking an outing into the wilderness on a Snowmobile Sled.

Journey through the dark forest and glide over the frozen river in pursuit of the aurora borealis. At the end gather around the fire in the Sami Tepee (lavvu) to enjoy hot drinks and snack dinner. Hakan will give you great insight into the life of the Sami.

Late evening drop back at the Arctic Eden Hotel.

After breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the kennels for what is for many a real highlight of a trip to the Arctic - driving your own sled dog team. With one Husky team between 2 people you can take turns driving over frozen lakes and through woods enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes around you. Stop for a wilderness lunch in a Sami Tepee before a return journey back to Kiruna.

Early evening transfer by minibus to the Abisko Sky Station, widely regarded as the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights.Take the chairlift up Mount Nuolja to the observatory which offers visitors a panoramic view over Lapporten, the Abisko Alps and Tornetrask.

Enjoy a delicious 4 course dinner in the sky station.

During the winter nights when it is dark, depending on the correct weather conditions, it is possible to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky around you from this fantastic vantage point.

Your chances of seeing the aurora are excellent. Abisko is blessed with many long, dark nights. In addition, there is minimal artificial light from streetlights, etc. Abisko is situated at the latitude of 68.2 North, that is to say, 250km north of the Arctic Circle and has the most cloud-free sky in Sweden.

Return to Kiruna late evening and overnight at Arctic Eden.

After breakfast your guide will take you to Máttaráhkká Sami Lodge, located just a few kilometers outside Kiruna. After your briefing set off following your own private trail into the wilderness. The scenery ranges from forest to frozen lakes, where the chances of seeing reindeers, moose and ptarmigans in their natural habitat are high. From your vantage point near MT Eatnamvárri gaze out over fantastic scenery - Miles and miles of untouched wilderness.

Back at the lodge enjoy a traditional sami lunch before heading back to your hotel.

This evening transfer to Máttaráhkká Sami Lodge, situated away from town and artificial light. Enjoy a 2 course dinner prepared from local ingredients and then have the evening to make use of the aurora lounge, where a roaring fire awaits. If the Lights are out this is a wonderful vantage point to see them from.

Drop back at hotel late evening.
