The landscape of this country is phenomenal with dramatic Canyons and Gorges, mountain villages, Rolling Sanddunes, Majestic Forts, Exotic Souqs and charming Fishing Villages.
You will see a Bee Keeper at work, visit a Bedouin family in the Wahiba Sands, visit a Womens only Souq, witness a cattle market and a community handicrafts project.
Day 1
Fly to Muscat. Private transfer to your hotel
On arrival a private transfer will take you to your hotel. Overnight in Muscat
Day 2
Private Tour Muscat visiting the Mosque, Souqs, Al Aalam Palace, Community Project
Start your Oman holiday with a private tour of Muscat visiting the Grand Mosque and Ministeries area. In the old Muscat area you will stop at the magnificent Al Aalam Palace, as well as visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum and the enchanting Souqs filled with exotic smells of spices, ancient remedies, perfumes and coffees.
In the old part of the city a special visit to the Community Sidab Womens Sewing Group will be organised for you. Here you will see how local people are developing their skills to help them earn an income. Overnight in Muscat.
Day 3
Coastal Escapade visiting the Bimah Sinkhole, Qalhat ruins, Sur & Ayja, Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve
Today you will embark on a thrilling private drive from Muscat to Sur with the Arabian Sea on one side and rocky cliffs on the other. You will stop at Bimah Sinkhole a spectacular limestone crater, and the stunning white sandy Fins beach. You will visit picturesque Wadis surrounded by lush plantations.
In Qalhat visit the ruins of the tomb of the Holy Lady standing high up on the cliff top. In Sur you will see the many seaside mansions and stop at the Dhow building yard.
Next you can visit the charming village of Ayja with quaint houses on both sides of narrow alleys with goats and sheep wandering the narrow streets.
Finally tonight you will visit Ras Al Jinz, one of the largest nesting areas for Green Turtles in the Indian Ocean. An average of 30,000 nest on the beach here. The Turtle Reserve opens at night to give you the chance to see one of them. In the early morning you may also be lucky enough to see the turtle babies dig their way out of the sands.
The best time for seeing the Turtles is June to September though you can see them year round and even out of season on average 1 will visit a night. Overnight in Ras Al Jinz Reserve right on the beach.
Day 4
Turtle Reserve at Sunrise, Private Tour to visit Fishing Villages, Wadis and Dunes at Wahiba Sands
Ras Al Hadd near Ras al Jinz is where the first sunrise in the whole of the Arabian peninsula is seen. You will have the opportunity to see if the turtle babies dig their way out of the sands at Sunrise.
Later this morning your private tour will show you unspoiled and breathtaking sceneries of the desert with watch towers, old fortified houses and forts, and a 200 hundred yr old mosque with 52 domes.
At the pictuersque Wadi Bani Khalid you can have a refreshing swim, before you enter the Wahiba Sands which is almost 200kms in length and 100kms wide. The dunes rise 100 m above in different shades of colour and shifting sands.
A 4 WD drive over the dunes is a thrilling introduction to the sands before you enjoy the spectacular sunset before arriving at the Deserts Nights Resort to overnight.
Day 5
Visit women only market, Bedouin house visit, 400 yr old Al Hamra mud houses, Wadi Nakhr and the Jebel Shams Peak
Early in the morning explore the dunes on foot before leaving for a visit to a Bedouin House in a oasis village where you can learn first hand about how the Bedouins are transiting between nomadic and settled people.
Continuing onto the desert town of Nizwa you can visit the unique women-only market. Here women in exotic traditional costumes conduct brisk business as their children play in the square.(This is only possible on wednesdays)
At Al Hamra you will see 400 year old mud houses and the outstanding Wadi Nakr Gorge.
Finally having passed small villages hidden in the mountain ranges you will arrive at Jebel Shams, the tallest peak in Oman at over 3000 m with spectacular views. Overnight at The View Camp
Day 6
Mountain Walk and Majestic Forts
This morning you will take an exciting (but easy) walk along the steep canyon walls to an abandoned village. You will have incredible views of the rugged mountains.
This afternoon you will visit some of the Majestic Forts including Jabreen Castle, perphaps the finest of all Omani castles with fine carvings, frescoes and inscriptions. At Bahla you will stop for a photo at the UN World Heritage site of Bahla Fort - a mud walled oasis in the Omani desert. Overnight at Nizwa.
Day 7
Mountain Crossing, Bee Keeping local, Nizwa Cattle Market and Fort
This morning visit the famous Nizwa cattle market where people from many villages bring their live stock to sell. (This is only possible on a Friday) You will also see the 17th Century fort built on sold rock designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons, and the Souq renowned for its intricate silver jewelry.
In your 4 WD you will take a breathtaking journey past mountain villages and terraced farming to visit a Bee Keeper where the honey bee is kept in hollowed out trunks of date palms.
Finally on the drive back towards Muscat you will see a picturesque Wadi, beautiful beaches, forts and fishing villages. Overnight in Muscat.
Day 8
Dolphin Spotting boat trip. Private Transfer for flight home
A transfer will take you from the hotel to the dolphin spotting boat. We of course cannot guarantee sightings but about 21 species of Whales and Dolphins have been identified, including the Blue Whale which is seldom seen anywhere else in the world.
