DAY 1:

Fly to Muscat. Private transfer to your hotel
On arrival a meet and greet service will meet you to help avoid the lengthy queues at immigration followed by a private transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Muscat.

DAY 2:

Private Tour Muscat visiting the Grand Mosque, Souqs, Al Aalam Palace
Start your Oman holiday with a private half day tour of Muscat visiting the Grand Mosque and Ministries area. In the old Muscat area you will stop to walk around the outside of the magnificent Al Aalam Palace, as well as visit the enchanting Souqs filled with exotic smells of spices, ancient remedies, perfumes and coffees. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Muscat.

Day 3

Dolphin Spotting boat trip
A transfer will take you from the hotel to the shared dolphin spotting boat. The boat follows the tuna fishing boats, around which the dolphins are often found. About 21 species of Whales and Dolphins have been identified, including the Blue Whale which is seldom seen anywhere else in the world. Private transfer back to the hotel.

Rest of day at leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities. Overnight in Muscat

DAY 4

Coastal Escapade visiting the Bimah Sinkhole, Wadi Tiwi and Shaab, Qalhat ruins, Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve
Today you will embark on a thrilling private drive from Muscat to Sur with the Arabian Sea on one side and rocky cliffs on the other. You will stop at Bimah Sinkhole a spectacular limestone crater, where we would recommend you have a swim.

This morning you will visit picturesque Wadis surrounded by lush plantations, and stop for a picnic lunch at Wadi Tiwi, and a photo stop overlooking the stunning Wadi Shaab.

In Qalhat visit the ruins of the tomb of the Holy Lady standing high up on the cliff top.

Finally tonight you will arrive at Ras Al Jinz, one of the largest nesting areas for Green Turtles in the Indian Ocean. An average of 30,000 nest on the beach here. The Turtle Reserve opens at night to give you the chance to see one of them.

The best time for seeing the Turtles is June to September though you can see them year round and even out of season on average 1 will visit a night. Overnight in Ras Al Jinz Reserve.

DAY 5

Turtle Reserve at Sunrise, Private Tour to visit Sur and Transfer to Wahiba Sands
Ras Al Hadd near Ras al Jinz is where the first sunrise in the whole of the Arabian peninsula is seen. You will have the opportunity to see if the turtle babies dig their way out of the sands at Sunrise.

Later in the morning you will visit Sur where you will stop at the traditional boatyard, where beautiful Dhows are built.

Continue to Wahiba Sands arriving at Deserts Nights Resort around lunchtime. The Wahiba Sands are almost 200kms in length and 100kms wide. The dunes rise 100 m above in different shades of colour and shifting sands. This is authentic desert!

A short 25 mins 4 WD Dune Bashing drive over the dunes is a thrilling introduction to the Sand Dunes.

Late afternoon you will be taken up to the top of a sand dune by 4WD to enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Sand Dunes. Grab a drink and wander off to enjoy the silence, peace and beauty on your own.

Day 6

Bedouin house visit, Visit Wadi Bani Khalid
Early in the morning explore the dunes on foot by yourselves before leaving for a visit to a Bedouin House where you can learn first hand about how the Bedouins are transiting between nomadic and settled people.

Later you will be taken in a 4WD to the Oasis of the picturesque and dramatic Wadi Bani Khalid where you can have a refreshing swim.   

Return in the afternoon to the desert to enjoy the peace and solitude. The tents are air conditioned and are a wonderful place to relax.

Day 7

Jabreen Castle, Visit Al Hamra, Visit Al Hoota Cave
This morning you will leave the desert to visit the Majestic Fort of Jabreen Castle, perhaps the finest of all Omani castles with fine carvings, frescoes and inscriptions.

Afterwards explore the village of Al Hamra, at the foot of the mountains, where 400 years old mud houses are still standing & occupied.

Visit the Al Hoota Cave. This is estimated to be over 2 million years old. The total length of the cave is around 4.5 Km, of which 500 m is open for tourists.

Day 8

Nizwa Cattle Market, Mizwa Fort, Village walk in Misfat & Birkat Al Mauz
This morning visit the famous Nizwa cattle market where people from many villages bring their live stock to sell. (This is only possible on a Friday) You will also see the 17th Century fort built on solid rock designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons, and the Souq renowned for its intricate silver jewellery.

Afterwards explore the little village of Misfat. Here you can see in action the famed Falaj irrigation channels used to irrigate the villagers crops . This is a wonderful shaded and peaceful walk through the Wadi and to be highly recommended. At Birkat Al Mauz at the foot of the mountains you can also explore the many dates and banana plantations.

You will take the winding road to Jebel al Akhdar (2000m), the jewel of the Al Hajar mountain ranges. Enjoy the cool climate up in the mountains and see Jebel al Akhdar which is famed for fruit orchards laid out in terraces along the mountain slopes and irrigated by falaj, traditional water systems.

DAY 9

Mountain Walk
This morning take a 2hr village walk through the tiny villages beneath the hotel with the backdrop of a spectacular vista of peaks, gorges and wadis. On the way you will see sea bed coral fossils (Yes 2,000 m high!)

Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the pool. The hotel has a very powerful telescope and if the nights are clear we would recommend you take a look at Saturn and Jupiter. Overnight at Sahab Hotel

DAY 10

Mountain Crossing, Bee Keeping visit, Kargreen Restaurant dinner, Fly Home
In your private 4 WD you will take a breath-taking journey on a narrow mountain track with steep sides and stunning vistas, past mountain villages and terraced farming to visit a Bee Keeper where the honey bee is kept in hollowed out trunks of date palms.

Stop in Muscat for a farewell dinner at Kargreen Restaurant . Kargeen’ is the old Omani word for ‘little wooden cottage’, and this open air restaurant adds an old-world touch to the modern-day eating experience.
