The first time visitor to Syria feels serenity and an attraction to its mystical beauty. Moving around is easy and there is a strong tradition of hospitality and welcoming tourists with a smiling face.
Whilst Damascus is fascinating with the Umayyad Mosque, Saladin tomb and Christian quarter it is the classical ruins of ancient Palmyra and Apamea, the Crusader castle of Crac des Chevaliers, and the old city of Aleppo that delight and entrance.
Visas costing £32 must be pre issued by Syrian Embassy to British Nationals before arrival as they cannot be gained from the borders or airport.
It is strictly forbidden to enter Syria with a passport which has a visa or stamp from Israel and those holding a stamp indicating an Israel-Jordan border crossing; and holders of passports bearing evidence of entry at Sharm El Sheikh, Rafha, Gaza or Nablus.
Temperature varies from low teens in the winter to the high 30’s in the summer. Precipitation is low at a maximum average of 7 days a month in the winter reducing to 0 in the summer.
Syria can be visited all year round with the peak season in May/June and Sept/Oct. Best to avoid July/Aug due to very high temp.
