Verona is one of Italy's loveliest towns and an appealing destination for a short break. It is rich in archaeological sites and besides having a beautiful medieval centre it is also within striking distance of the winelands of Valpolicella and the beautiful Lake Garda or indeed Venice.
A weekend in Verona blends culture, gastronomy and fabulous scenery. The Roman Arena in Verona is without doubt the most celebrated venue for opera in the world. During the mid summer months concerts and operas are performed in the open in truly spectacular style.
You can spend a long time exploring Verona's narrow streets lined with palazzi that make up the historic centre while some of the churches contain fine works of art and other historic treasures. The famous balcony is also a principal port on the Shakespearian tourist trail.
