The Northern Lights Aurora Borealis Abisko Break

On arrival in Kiruna a guide will meet and transfer you to your hotel, The Arctic Eden, where you will be kitted out in your complimentary Arctic Clothing.

This evening Hakan, your Sami guide, will take you onto his land for an encounter with his reindeer. After feeding the reindeer and learning how to throw the lasso take an outing on a snowmobile sled.

Journey through the dark forest and glide over the frozen river in pursuit of the aurora borealis. At the end gather around the fire in the Sami Tepee (lavvu) to enjoy hot drinks and snack dinner. Hakan will share his many stories with regard to Sami mythology and history.

Late evening drop back at the Arctic Eden Hotel.

After breakfast your guide will pick you up for your 4 hour experience in the wilderness driving a husky sled dog team. With one team between two people you can take turns driving!

Glide over frozen lakes and through woods enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes around you. Stop for a wilderness lunch before a return journey back to Kiruna.

Your guide will drop you at the world famous Ice Hotel where you will have entry included and will be able to spend a couple of hours wandering around, viewing the incredible Ice Suites, perhaps having a drink in the Ice Bar or simply doing some shopping.

At around 6pm transfer back to the Arctic Eden hotel where you have an evening at leisure and dinner included at the Arctic Thai restaurant adjacent to the hotel.

After breakfast your guide will meet and transfer you to a spectacular valley near Kiruna for your snowmobile adventure. You will enjoy a day of exploration in the arctic wilderness. The terrain includes the frozen river and lake systems of the region with remarkable views before you.

You will cover about 40 kilometres in your day, which will also include lunch back at Máttaráhkká Sami Lodge. The valley is home to some wildlife so you could bump into the occasional Reindeer!

Mikko will then drop you down at the world famous IceHotel where you can spend a couple of hours touring the hotel, marvelling at the Ice Suites, having a drink in the Absolut IceBar or doing some shopping.

If you would like to spend a night in the IceHotel we can arrange this for you either as an extension to your holiday or as a supplement for one night during your 4 night break.

Early evening transfer to Abisko, the Northern Lights Capital of Europe. Check in at Abisko Mountain Lodge, where you will enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner prior to taking the chairlift up Mount Nuolja to the Aurora Sky Station, which offers visitors a panoramic view over Lapporten, the Abisko Alps and Tornetrask.

During the winter nights this is, dependent on weather conditions, one of the best places on earth for consistent sightings of the Northern Lights .
Return to Abisko Mountain Lodge late in the evening and overnight.

Train adventure down to Narvik on the Norwegian coast. The journey, entirely north of the Arctic Circle, takes you along a fantastic landscape of mountains and fjords separating Sweden from Norway. The scenery is breathtaking.

On arrival you have a couple of hours to have lunch and enjoy the small coastal town of Narvik with its interesting naval history before returning to Abisko by train.

The train trip is best done after the 01 Feb. For clients travelling before 01 Feb this day can be used for one of the optional activities listed below. Ice fishing, Ice Climbing or snowmobiling in Abisko National Park are all highly recommended. These activities carry a supplementary cost.

Enjoy dinner in Abisko Mountain Lodge and a relaxing evening. Hopefully you will hear the cry of 'Northern Lights' at which point you will not see a restaurant empty so fast!
