The truffle is a mysterious and unique tuber, completely concealed underground and therefore no human being is able to spot it. Only a well-trained dog can trace it by smell

Every year from the 1st Sat in October and each weekend until the middle of November the Truffle Fair is held.

Hunt for White Truffles Yourself!

Day 1
Fly into Ljubljana and Self drive to Istria

On arrival at the airport you will pick up your car hire to drive yourself to Istria. This is an easy 1 1/2 hr drive. Overnight at Kempinski Adriatic Resort

Day 2
Attend the Truffle Fair, Wine tasting

Today you will be shown around the Truffle Fair. Here you will have a huge array of local produce available for tastings - truffles, wines,olive oils, cheeses, honeys, liquers and proscutos. You can indulge yourself to the max on truffle omelettes, truffle risotto and other aromatic delights. There will be contests for the biggest truffle as well as truffle cooking demonstrations.

Late afternoon you will take a wine tasting at Franc Arman Winery, which is set in twenty acres in the rolling hills of western Istria. The tastings take place in what used to be the original wine cellar overlooking the family vineyards and a trio of century-old olive trees. Overnight at Kempinski Adriatic Resort.

Day 3
Private Truffle Hunt

This morning you will meet the expert Truffle Hunter and together with the critical ingredient - his dog, you will search through the forest looking for truffles. The locations chosen are ones where truffles are known to be found.

Any truffles found you can keep and have prepared with pasta at Restaurant Zigante in Livade for lunch.
