The Northern Lights Aurora Borealis Abisko Break

Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the 4* Arctic Eden and kitted out with our excellent quality Arctic Clothing for your use on all your activities. One of the guides will run through your itinerary with you.

This evening Hakan, your Sami guide, will take you onto his land for an encounter with his reindeer. After feeding them you will learn about Sami life, before taking an outing into the wilderness on a Snowmobile Sled.

Journey through the dark forest and glide over the frozen river in pursuit of the aurora borealis. At the end gather around the fire in the Sami Tepee (lavvu) to enjoy hot drinks and snack dinner. Hakan will share his many stories with regard to Sami mythology and history.

Late evening drop back at the Arctic Eden Hotel.

After breakfast your guide will meet and transfer you to a spectacular valley near Kiruna for your snowmobile adventure. You will enjoy a day of exploration in the arctic wilderness. The terrain includes frozen rivers and lake systems of the region with remarkable views before you.

You will cover about 40 kilometres in your day, which will also include lunch back at Máttaráhkká Sami Lodge. The valley is home to some wildlife so you could bump into the occasional Reindeer!

This afternoon one of the guides will take you down at the world famous IceHotel where you can spend a couple of hours marvelling at the Art Suites, having a drink in the Absolut IceBar or doing some shopping.

This evening transfer to Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Sami Lodge, situated away from town and artificial light. Enjoy a 2 course dinner prepared from local ingredients and then have the evening to make use of the aurora Lounge, where a roaring fire awaits. If the Lights are out this is a wonderful vantage point to see them from.

Drop back at hotel late evening.

After breakfast your guide will pick you up for your 4 hour experience in the wilderness driving a husky sled dog team. With one team between two people you can take turns driving!

Glide over frozen lakes and through woods enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes around you. Stop for a wilderness lunch before a return journey back to Kiruna.

Early evening transfer by bus to Abisko. Check into your room at Abisko Mountain Lodge where a delicious 3 course dinner awaits prior to venturing out on the Aurora Hunt in one of the best locations in the world for seeing this extraordinary natural wonder.

Dinner and Visit to Aurora Sky Station: Why not have dinner and spend the evening searching for the Lights from the unique Aurora Sky Station in Abisko.

Aurora Photography Evening: For all those keen photographers, spend the evening with Chad Blakley, Abisko's aurora photographer. After dinner at Abisko Mountain Lodge head off to your Tepee base in Abisko National Park where you are supplied with a Nikon DSLR camera, preset for optimum aurora photography. Spend the evening learning about the Aurora Borealis and hopefully capturing them for a lasting memory!

You can relax today and walk around some of the beautiful areas nearby, take up an optional extra activity (see below) or take our complimentary train adventure down to Narvik on the Norwegian coast. The journey, entirely north of the Arctic Circle, takes you along a fantastic landscape of mountains and fjords separating Sweden from Norway. The scenery is breathtaking. Return back mid afternoon.

This evening have dinner at Abisko Mountain Lodge before enjoying an evening snow shoe walk in search of the Merry Dancers. With your guide venture out into the wilderness around Abisko Mountain Lodge and search for the Lights and learn about the aurora and the area.
