Two-thirds of Brits will book their holiday online this year, according to a new survey.
Research from holiday comparison website travelsupermarket.com has suggested that Brits are abandoning high street travel agents in their droves; the majority instead choosing to book holidays online.
According to the poll, just 14 per cent of people will book holidays over the phone, whilst only one in ten will book via a travel agent. It was also revealed that the internet has become the first port of call for over half of those researching where they would like to travel for their holidays.
Travelweekly.co.uk revealed that 96 per cent of Brits are planning a holiday this year, meaning that approximately 39.2 million are expected to book a holiday online.
The research also found that Italy is reportedly the second most popular destination for Brits to travel on their holidays in 2012, with many tourists perhaps already planning to visit the Venice Carnival 2012 or this year's Verona Opera. Spain remains the most popular choice for Brits.
Travel Supermarket spokesman Bob Atkinson appeared far from surprised that most trips are now being researched and booked online.
He told Mail Online: "With travel companies offering a huge array of deals to secure bookings, research is essential for holidaymakers to make sure they get what they want from their holiday and also pay the best price."
