The annual New Years Eve celebration in Iceland is truly a remarkable event. On this unique night, Icelanders who truly know how to celebrate in style, light up Reykjavik with bonfires and fireworks.
Combined this with the fact that the forecast for the Lights is excellent this winter, and for 2 nights you are staying at the place most renowned in Iceland to see them, and you have a stunning break.

DAY 1- 30th December 2013
Fly to Reykjavik to start your Reykjavik New Year Break.
Fly from London Heathrow to Reykjavik, where on arrival you will pick up your car hire to drive to your hotel, the Reykjavik Centrum Hotel. Rest of day is at leisure to enjoy the start of your New Year break in Iceland.
DAY 2- 31st December 2013
Blue Lagoon, New Years Eve Dinner & Fireworks
Breakfast and then self drive to and from the Blue Lagoon, Iceland's most famous landmark. Enjoy bathing and relaxing in the geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. In addition to bathing there is a sauna with a view of the lagoon, a steam bath with white walls that resemble silica mud and a cosy steam bath carved into a lava cave.
Early evening transfer from your hotel to Perlan restaurant where you will enjoy a festive 4-course gala dinner.
After the main course guests will be picked up for the evening Reykjavik Bonfire & Christmas Lights Tour where you will celebrate with Icelanders at the bonfires that are situated all over the city. The tour takes about two hours.
After the tour return to Perlan restaurant for the dessert.
At midnight, with sparkling wine, celebrate the New Year by watching the fireworks from the panoramic balcony.
Afterwards you can dance the night away. Transfer back to hotels around 2 o'clock at night (transfers start at 00:30 for those who want to go home early).
Overnight in Reykjavik.
DAY 3- 1st January 2014
Self Drive to Hotel Ranga
You have time to recover from the night before and then pick up your hire car to drive to Hotel Ranga (2 hrs). You may wish to explore some of the South Coast near Hotel Ranga and see the waterfalls and black volcanic beaches.
Hotel Ranga is famous as one of the best places in Iceland to see the world famous Lights. It is in an area where clear skies are more usual than elsewhere, which is very good for Aurora Borealis viewing. As the hotel lies in a secluded, countryside area without external lighting the hotel provides excellent opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis without light interference or pollution.
Sitting in one of the outdoor hot tubs with a drink is the most wonderful place to watch the skies to see if the dazzling Lights appear. Seasonal dinner and Overnight at Hotel Ranga
DAY 4 - 2nd January 2014
4WD tour of Glaciers & Eyjafjallajökull Volcano OR Highlights of Golden Circle with Pjorsardalur
EITHER
This tour will take you as close as possible to the crater in Eyjafjallajökull's volcano- the volcano which erupted in spectacular style in 2010! In your specially adapted Superjeep you will see new fissures and lava formations as well as hot glowing Lava and the heat under the surface! The Super-Jeep will take you over the Glaciers towards the summit and then there is about an hours walk from the end of the SuperJeep Trail to the Volcano with its breathtaking views over the Þórsmörk valley and back across to the Atlantic Ocean.

Take a full day out in a 4WD super truck experiencing Iceland’s dramatic landscapes and the magnificent Golden Circle highlights.
Visit the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall, which can totally freeze in Winter; the Geyser where every 5 minutes an eruption takes place and Pjorsardalur. Here you will see many waterfalls, including Háifoss, the tallest waterfall in Iceland. This is a beautiful spot in Iceland behind the famous Mount Helka.
3 course dinner and overnight at Hotel Ranga.
DAY 5- 3rd January 2014
Self drive to airport for flight home.
Breakfast and at leisure prior to self drive onto the airport where you will drop off your car prior to catching your flight home after your New Year's Eve Celebration in Iceland.
