DAY 2: Saturday
Fly to Greenland , City Tour, Evening Iceberg cruise

Fly to Greenland. On arrival at Ilulissat a guide will pick you up at airport and transfer you to the Arctic hotel to start your West Greenland Tour.

You will start your visit to Greenland with a guided Ilulissat City Walk to visit the old part of town and learn more about the city from its historic roots and how that influenced life in the city today. You will see the original Danish trading station, the bustling fishing harbour, the fishing market where you may see the hunters selling their catch and maybe even see some whale blubber, the old church and the museum.

After your welcoming dinner you will take a beautiful and thrilling cruise to see the Icebergs. During the Evening Iceberg Cruise the sunsets warm red colours and the gigantic icebergs reflecting in the icy waters are an unforgettable sight. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late Martini on “the real rocks”!

Until about the 24th July this cruise will run as a midnight sun cruise with all the beauty and eeriness of the Polar Sun. Overnight in Ilulissat.

DAY 3: Sunday
Boat Cruise to the Calving Glacier and Rodebay Settlement

DAY 3: Sunday
Boat Cruise to the Calving Glacier and Rodebay Settlement

The Eqip glacier is the only glacier in the area where you often experience a glacier calving. You will cruise in front of the 5 km wide glacier for about an hour and hopefully see this unique calving sight creating new icebergs.

However the boat trip there is also beautiful as you pass by Oqaatsut, a settlement of about 50 inhabitants before going through the beautiful Ataa Strait with cliffs to the west and bird colonies to the east where you will likely see colonies of fulmars and Arctic skuas.

Afterwards you will continue to the tiny settlement of Rodebay for lunch. There will be time for a short wander around to get a feel for the isolation that the Innuits are living in before returning to Ilulissat. Dinner and Overnight in Ilulissat. In our opinion this is the highlight of your West Greenland holiday.

Dinner and Overnight in Ilulissat.

DAY 4: Monday
Sermermiut Icebergs, Visit Inuit Home, Feed Huskies.

DAY 4: Monday
Sermermiut Icebergs, Visit Inuit Home, Feed Huskies.

You will go as far as the road goes, and then take a beautiful walk along to the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fiord to Sermermiut where traces from the 3 old Eskimo cultures still can be seen, as well of course as the fantastic icebergs.

Afterwards you will meet some Inuit people in their home, and whilst enjoying a “Coffee-Mik“, learn about Greenland and its people and their way of life.

The 3,500 husky dogs in town are still used for both work and fun every winter. We invite you to join the feeding of a dog team, where you can see, feel, touch and hear the howling of 20 hungry dogs. The owner will demonstrate the sledge and the harness and tell you about life as a sled dog.

Goodbye dinner and overnight in Ilulissat.

Whale Watching in Disko Bay

We cruise by boat into the Disko Bay to spot whales. In the summer time humpback whales come to the Disko Bay to feed on capelin, a small herring-like fish. As the humpback whales are a protected species, they are very trusting and can often be enjoyed at close range. Please be aware that we are not visiting a zoo, and therefore we cannot guarantee that the whales will ‘visit’ our boat! This lasts 6 hrs as you will also stop at Ilimanaq to see the small settlement. Pack lunch is included. The whole trip is @ 6 hrs.

The Arctic Hotel is the world’s most northerly 4 star hotel, located right on the edge of the Ilulissat Ice Fjord. There are 87 rooms, with the superior rooms having views across the sea and drifting icebergs.

Alternatively the unique two-person igloo cabins made of aluminium provide a front row view of the Ice Fjord. The igloos are located just a short walk from the hotel but in many ways they are in a totally different universe. The harsh nature comes right up to the door, and yet inside the igloos are modern and comfortable with electric heating, radio, TV, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities and a small bathroom with a shower. Reviews & Feedback

Testimonials

What an extraordinary place – indescribably beautiful. To actually watch and hear the Equip Glacier calve and take numerous boat trips past the Icebergs was so very special. Talk about a Once in a Lifetime Experience and certainly one off my bucket list!

Thankyou for organising the most incredible trip – Icebergs, Glaciers, Huskies and we saw whales on three separate times, and took the classic photo of a whale fluking with an Iceberg behind ! It doesn’t get better than that !
