Your India Tour starts at 10 am with a private introduction to Old Delhi where you will visit Raj Ghat, a simple memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and also see the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, one of Asia’s largest mosques.

Your tour to New Delhi will include a visit to the Qutub Minar, the tallest stone tower in India, the Humayun’s tomb, and a drive past the imposing India Gate, the Parliament building and the President’s residence.

Your epic journey starts this morning with a early morning private transfer to the train where a welcome breakfast will be waiting for you as the train departs for Jaipur.

Jaipur is the jewel in the crown of the desert state of Rajasthan and is renowned for its formidable forts, beautiful palaces, mansions and gardens.

After lunch on board you will be taken to visit the City Palace Galleries followed by dinner at Rambagh Palace Hotel. Built in 1835, Rambagh Palace has stepped gracefully through many royal transitions—from the home of the queen’s favourite handmaiden, to royal guesthouse and hunting lodge, and later as the residence of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II and his queen and is full of character.

Afterwards return for your first overnight on the train.

After breakfast on board you will be taken to visit Amber Fort which overlooks the Maota Lake with striking views of the gorge just outside Jaipur.

A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will see the royal apartments and step back in time as you visit the spectacular Chamber of Mirrors and the Hall of Victory.

Afterwards return to the train for lunch.

In the afternoon you have a choice of optional extras which can only be booked board the train. Spa at a hotel, or a visit to the City Palace and Observatory, or a local city tour.

Dinner will be served on board as you travel to Ranthambore. Overnight on the train.

Very early this morning you will arrive at Sawai Madhopur near Ranthambore, once the scene of royal hunting parties and now one of the best places in the world to see majestic tigers in the wild.

You will venture into the park to track tigers and other game; panthers, marsh crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, sloth bears, wild boar, deer and antelope, as well as numerous species of birds including the crested serpent eagle and the great Indian horned owl.

COMPLIMENTARY Free upgrade to a PRIVATE Jeep Tiger Safari for Weekend a La Carte guests only.

On return to the train you will have breakfast as the train continues to the fabled deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri.

After lunch on board you will be taken on a tour of this deserted red sandstone city built in the late 16th century and abandoned shortly after it was built, remaining very much in the same condition as when it was built. Beautiful sculptured palaces and halls for Private and Public Audience await your eyes.

Return for dinner as the train continues onto Agra.

Early morning you will arrive into Agra for a morning tour of the Taj Mahal, one of the modern 7 wonders of the world. This stupendous masterpiece, made entirely out of white marble inset with inlay, was worked on by over 20,000 of India’s most revered craftsmen.

Afterwards enjoy a champagne breakfast at the Taj Khema with the Taj Mahal as a backdrop.

After lunch on board this afternoon you have the choice of optional extras such as a Spa at a hotel, Visit Itmad-ud-daula (called the Jewel Box), or Agra Fort, the Mohabbat Taj Show or a local city tour. These are bookable locally on the train.

Dinner onboard as the train proceeds to Orchha. Overnight on the train.

After a very early breakfast this morning you have an early morning visit to Orchha.

The town was established by Rudra Pratap Singh some time after 1501, as the seat of a former princely state of central India. You will visit the Orchha Fort and Village Tour by Tuk Tuk.

Return to the train to relax as the train continues through dramatic landscape towards Khajuraho. After lunch on board you will proceed for a tour of the western group of the magnificent temples of Khajuraho, built between 950 and 1050 AD and which show highly sensual engravings of the whole range of human emotions and relationships.

Early evening you have a choice of optional extras – Spa at a hotel , Sound and Light Show or Dances of India Show.

Return to the train for dinner as the train continues to Varanasi. Overnight on the train.

Enjoy breakfast as you journey onto the holy city of Varanasi.

One of the oldest living cities in the world Varanasi has a spiritual legacy of over 3000 years. This holy city is set on the banks of the sacred river Ganges and is full of the chaos and colour of India – Bazaars, Festivals, Temples, Mosques and Palaces all can be found here.

You will disembark for lunch at the Taj Ganges Hotel and a visit of the ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon, and see the Ashoka Pillar. Afterwards visit a silk weaving centre.

Early evening you will take a cruise on the Ganges and witness a magical evening witnessing a religious ritual of worship of the evening Aarti. The chants, clashes of cymbals and drums, scents of flowers, incense and sandalwood and the blazing of the lamps and torches raised high in the air makes for a unforgettable evening.

Enjoy an exclusive vegetarian dinner with Kathak dance at the Brij Rama Palace conveniently perched on the river bank on the Darbanga Ghaat. The history of the palace dates back to the year 1812, in which it was built by the then minister for the estate of Nagpur, before returning to the train to continues the journey to Delhi.

Extend your stay to include Goa, the Pearl of the Orient, and Mumbai with its famed Elephanta Cave Temples as well as the Gateway of India and Gandhi memorial.

Goa is famed for its sun-kissed white beaches, serene blue seas and the lush meandering streets

Mumbai in contrast has so many cultural sights with the Gateway of India, the Jain Temples and the evocative Tower of Silence, as well as the dramatic Elephanta Cave Temples and a museum dedicated to the “Father of the Nation” Gandhi.

Day 9

Fly to Mumbai from Jaipur and private transfer to your hotel.

Day 10

At the Gateway of India you will board the motor launch (shared boat with locals) to visit the famous Elephanta Caves with your private guide. The beautifully sculpted rock-cut temples are thought to have been created between 450 and 750 AD when the island was known as Fortress cirt. The Portuguese renamed it Elephanta because of a large stone elephant near the shore. The caves are reached by climbing 100 steps.

In the afternoon your private tour will continue starting at the Gateway of India, which was before the advent of air travel, the only gateway into India. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George and Queen Mary in 1911. First up will be the Hain Temples built of marble and dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara.

Next up is the Tower of Silence, where the Parsis place their dead to eaten by the vultures and the Hanging Gardens built over Bombay reservoir. This is a fascinating place but don’t worry this is seem from a distance so is not unpleasant or upsetting. From here you have a panoramic view of the Marine Drive, often known as the Queen’s Necklace- known as such as the streetlights of the U Shaped road light up. At the Dhobi Ghats you will visit a huge open-air laundry before continuing to the Gandhi Memorial, the houses where he stayed. It is reserved as it was during his visits and the scenes of his life in photographs and models are of special interest.

Day 11

Breakfast and private transfer to airport to fly to Goa. Upon arrival you will met and transferred to your hotel.

Goa known as the Pearl of the Orient has a wonderful atmosphere which stems from its unique history, rich culture and some of the prettiest natural scenery that India has to offer.

Day 12 and Day 13

Magnificent temples, churches, old houses are waiting for you to self explore, though most people choose to spend their time enjoying its famed beaches and sea.

Extend to Visit Nepal and see Mt Everest

Having come so far it makes sense to extend for a private tour of Kathmandu, as well as enjoy a dramatic mountain flight around Everest.

Dotted by medieval city squares, monasteries and temples Kathmandu has numerous World Heritage Sites, centuries old stupas and monasteries to experience centuries old civilization and architecture. The people are known for their hospitality and warm nature. Traditionally guests are to be treated as a god with uttermost respect and kindness.

Day 11

Private visit of Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur translates as city of devotees, and is the best preserved of the 3 main medieval cities in the valley. Indeed it contains some of the most breath-taking religious architecture in the entire country. The 3 major squares are Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square and Dattatreya Square studded with pagoda and shikhara style temples. Narrow stone paved streets snake through red brick houses leading to hidden temples.

You will find in this buzzy area artisans who continue the traditional works of weaving, pottery, puppet and mask making and wooden crafts, as well as locals gathering to bathe, socialise and collect water. Main attractions that you will see are the Golden Gate, Lion’s Gate, Mini Pashupati Temple, Nyatapola Temple, Bhairav Nath Temple

In the afternoon your private tour will continue with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. Durbar, meaning Palace, is  where the kings were once crowned and ruled from. Here the charm of the old town blends with traditional architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. The massive complex has three main squares, home to palaces, temples and courtyards. In this area you will find the former Royal elephant stable, and the Temple of the Living Goddess, Kumari. Kumaari is a young girl chosen through an ancient and mystical selection to become the human incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Taleju, and if you are lucky you may get a glimpse of her peeking out of an elaborately carved wooden window.

Three temples were destroyed in the 2015 earthquake but the Hanuman Dhoka, the main entrance to the old royal palace and the Taleju Bhawani temples, the oldest of all the temples is situated in this area. Restoration is underway in this square.

Continue your private tour to Swayambhunath. This holy shrine is perched on top of a hill and visible from all sides of the valley for many miles. The Stupa is over 2,500 years old and it is surrounded by a variety of shrines and temples. The stupa has Buddha’s eyes and eyebrows painted on. Here you will have the unique chance to see Tibetan pilgrimages and listen to monks chanting prayers in their traditional clothes which for many is the highlight of their trip to Nepal.

During this day you will see restoration after the 2016 earthquake but Nepal is very much open to tourism, with many beautiful and spectacular places to see.

Enjoy an early morning hour long scenic flight capturing the breathtaking scenery of the Himalayas where you will view stunning snow capped peaks including the highlight the inspiring Mount Everest. Fly over glaciers, lakes, rivers and gorges but do remember that this flight is only operated when the weather is good and visibility satisfactory.

Return for breakfast and a morning at leisure, until your private transfer to the airport for your flight to Delhi to overnight.

The Maharajas Express train is almost half a mile long and redefines luxury and comfort as it recreates the lifestyle of a princely era. Journeying on the Maharajas Express has been compared to the Orient Express in terms of refinement and luxury, with each of the cabins suffused with nostalgia of past Grandeur.

In total there are 14 carriages, each with their own personal butler, and a total of 88 guests. The cabins are divided into deluxe cabins, junior suites, suites, and the majestic presidential suite.
